Default Engine project begun

Well I have started my engine project.

I have started with a 2-bolt 1988 350 chevy bare block (so i can use factory roller cam parts) This morning I dropped it off at the machine shop for the following machining steps.

Hot tank and Mag block ...............$60
Tap oil galleries for pipe plugs.......$50
Bore and Hone w/ torque plate......$180
Machine deck paralell to cl............$75
Install main studs and line hone.....$110
R&R cam bearings........................$35
Debur block of all casting flash etc...$75
Total................................... .......$585
Took a tour of the shop - spotless - and loaded with all kinds of very high tech and high horse motors they had an olf ford SOHC motor on a stand - were working on several 427 side oilers - had 2 - all aluminum small blocks - 1 all alum. big block with a 8-71 blower on top - they do everything there - they will machine and assemble if you desire.

I will be doing my own assembly.

Updates as they happen. :hurray:

As soon as you're done, you better come up here again. :) You planning on going to Laguna again? I'll definitely bring the 78. Things are starting to really come together for me after the front spring install. I've broken quite a few boundaries on working on the car. I hope to replace my motor this summer too, but it's very unlikely. Hopefully I'll at least have a new cam and headers by the time we meet up again.

I've got the 360# rear spring waiting to go in... need to pick up a tq wrench and jackstands. Can't wait to hear how the engine runs!

What cam/heads/intake?

Cam = hyd. roller
Heads = AFR-180 alum or equal
Intake = Edelbrock Performer

Should be a runner - My hope is to have the new engine/trans in before next year so I can do the power tour.
