I was wondering if there's a method to bench test the gauge without reconnecting it to the car. Perhaps by connecting a 12V battery to the terminals at the back and then altering the resistance? I've attempted to search online, but the results were unhelpful. Most results pertain to troubleshooting older-style gauges with an oil tube in the rear, or they refer to the Wilcox instructions, which are no longer available.

Or perhaps, looking at the method outlined by 4-vettes: manually move the needle to the right, then connect a 12V battery and observe if it swiftly returns to zero?

This is how the rear looks like.

Its hit and miss sometimes but this internet archive of the wilcox corvette site still has a bunch of info on it. Sometimes you have to move the date around to get more archived content: Willcox Corvette, Inc. - Corvette Repair & Install Help

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, TheCollector! The pictures weren't available in the Web Archive, but the descriptions were. Using Google Image Search, I was able to backtrack the pictures on the different sources. I'll share them here as well:

Alright, I'll head to the garage, plug in the gauge, run the tests as described below and see what happens.

No oil temp gauge in a 78. (clock there)

Thanks for the tip about backtracking and finding the missing pictures with the description and Image Search!

I understand, my post would only apply if you replace the gauge with a new reproduction gauge.

Let's see if I can get the original one to work - I've repaired the ammeter and the clock... Hopefully, this one will work too!

Glad I could help too!

By the way, I was wondering about that oil pressure gauge—or rather, the sensor. Somehow I don't realise that I saw any wire where the sensor is supposed to be on the engine block.

So I reviewed the photos taken during the repairs, specifically those of the oil pan and oil filter, and - no trace of any wire, or a sensor...

I assume the sensor should be connected to the spot I circled in yellow?

For now, gauge testing will have to wait until I get a new sensor, hopefully in a few days. I’ll also need to locate the wire that connects to it. I hope that it hasn't been cut off or anything of that sort...

I also hope that fitting for the sensor to screw into is not missing (not that clear from the picture), because I'm not sure where to buy new one over here in Europe - I assume it will be a US standard, which can be quite difficult to source here...

I can’t see in the picture, but that almost looks like there is a pipe plug in the threaded hole above the oil filter.
If you can see it better and there is a plug threaded into the hole, then the prior owner might not have used that location on the block to install the sensor.
If that engine was run with that hole open, there would be oil everywhere,

Ah you beat me to it.

On my 82, where your plug is above the oil filter is where the Oil temperature sensor is located but I think that is specific to the 80-82. The oil pressure sender is screwed into the block up immediately behind the intake manifold and on the driver's side of the distributor. Agreed, maybe check there? Especially if you don't see a sender wire and connector down by the oil filter.

Have you tried Rock Auto for items like that? I think they may ship there, I see Czech in the list. Add part to the list, put in your country and zip/postcode and see what they estimate for shipping.

And there's always the 5% discount code you paste in the How did you hear about us box. The ***OFFICIAL*** RockAuto discount code thread | Page 8 | irate4x4

Indeed, that's a valid point. I've just verified it, and yes, it is plugged And I've probably found the sensor in a different location, more on that below...

Thank you for the advice! I've returned from the garage, and it seems I've located the oil pressure sensor where you mentioned However, it seems the story doesn't end here. I noticed the wire coming from the sensor is bright green, which I suspect isn't the original factory color. The wires going into the connector for the oil pressure gauge are color coded correctly ie., pink and blue. I suppose the next step is to trace where the bright green wire from the oil pressure sensor leads and determine its connection points. if there are any, that is The thing is, when I removed the center console along with the gauges, I noticed the oil pressure gauge was unplugged for some reason... I guess I'm about to discover why

I frequently purchase parts from RockAuto, which is one of my preferred suppliers. I even bought my new oil pressure sensor from them However, the issue with RockAuto is that they don't stock Corvette-specific parts, nor do they have the fittings, fasteners, and such that I need from time to time. Acquiring these parts locally over here here can be troublesome, if the dimensions or threading are of a US standard. Also, thank you for the link to the discount code thread! I'm throwing my codes to a similar thread, but it's rare to find something valid when I could use one

Glad you found a sender. Best of luck on the tracing. I see you've done a lot on your car in another post!

Agreed, Rock Auto is good for general stuff like that but there's many specific, modified and special parts that aren't carried.
