Anyone have a photo of the underbody shields near the firewall on a 1968?

If so, please post a photo so I can figure them out.

Are you asking about the white shaded heat shields? How early or late is your 68? As those shields did not show up till late in production.

 

Yes. Car was built in April, 1968. I THINK that the go along the engine side of the firewall, but not sure. I cannot find mounting bolt studs on either side, but the bottom hanger is there on both sides.

Car was obtained somewhat recently, but underbody was basically bare fiberglass above the frame...no insulation, etc.
Bottom of footwell where it meets the firewall was cracked through on both sides, leading me to believe that either they were never there, or they were removed. The seems to be one rubber type mount/projection on the passenger side that MAY line up about in the location, but nothing else.

My 1968 C3 made in October of 1967 came with the under body shield brackets on the frame for the shields. I have at least one of the shields on the car as I speak but the passengers side is not there currently. It was close to my headers or something so I pulled the shield out on the passengers side.

The shields on my car were just painted steel plates with nothing on them to make them special. I am not familiar with the White Shaded heat shields mentioned above.

Somebody either hit something that bounced off the floor of the car or side-stepped the clutch a bit too hard. There was a crack on the front of the fiberglass floor on the drivers side. I ground down the surrounding area and made a new Fiberglass patch for the section and now my floor is as hard as it was previous to someone damaging the floor.

The car had the splash shields and fiberglass, I added the under body panels. My car is May “68”.

I purchased one bracket for the under body shields and used it to fabricate the additional ones. Can get pricey when you add everything up.

 

So....the semi triangular ones that go behind the lower control arms are the stock ones and the rectangular ones that are further back were fabricated by you? Is that correct?

I have a white shield with a roughly 45 (or so) degree angle on it, that I am under the impression that it goes down there somewhere.

I'm trying to protect the floor of the passenger area as well as to cut down the heat that I'm told to expect. The insulation with reflective stuff is ordered (along with the pointy retainers) but I want to be through in doing this. I'm going to take a couple of photos and add them to this.

I purchased the rectangle shields, I made the mounting clips. I think the plastic shields are a replacement for the metal triangle shaped shields. Personally, the continuity of the metal shields just works for me.

This is the shield I'm not sure of. Does it apply to a 1968? Where does it go?

This is behind the wheel area, I think it was on the passenger side.


This is under the drivers side footwell area where it meets the firewall. Disregard the wires as they will be needed in identifying rivet holes and to help in repairing the crack in that area.

I realize that all of these areas need reflective insulation.

Aha. There it is. Was the rear piece available? On the fabricated mounts, how did you attach the to the body? Rivets, I suppose?

The white heat shields on 1968's were started to be installed late May or Early June 1968. Your car should not have them. To verify this if there are not 2 studs on each upper toe floor board they were never installed at the factory. Those studs were riveted in place.

what is the build date on your car?
I just picked up a April 25 68’ coupe.
Seems a lot of things started to change around our build date.
Perhaps we could compare notes if questions arise on whether something is original or not…
