Default CAI installed on 74 LS2 swap

Over the holidays I had a chance to look at changing the way I installed the intake on my ls2. It was interfering with the hood support, blocking airflow and covering up the march pulley system (bling) that I installed.

So once I removed the intake I had to move the upper rad hose to allow the intake tube to drop down toward the bottom of the rad.

I used 2 75deg. elbows to get it under the rad, then a strait section through a 4" hole I drilled in the air dam to a 45deg. elbow witch put the filter up high in the nose just above the center grill opening.

Now I just need to reinstall the lower valance.

Any worries about water if caught in a rain storm? Not trying to be a smart aleck just asking.

I'm not to concerned, not a daily driver. That being said once the front plate is installed (it is removable for shows) it should deflect most of the water. If appears there is going to be a problem there are covers you can get or I could install a shield in front of the filter. I think spectre makes one that just slips under the clamp that holds the filter.

I know that K&N makes a pre-filter "bag" that goes over the filter to keep dust off the filter but I don't know if is helps with water.

I would expect the intake temps came way down moving the filter to the front. What were your IATs before and after?

I don't know exactly what the numbers were but I was running about 225 on the temp gage. I had a few other issues, the new thermostat wasn't opening so I put the original back in. I also had the fan temps lowered to 197 on low and 205 on high. I am know running 195. I think I am getting better air flow around the engine now so that has also helped.

Nice way to use some wasted space. I always laughed at the CAI that people use with the filter in the engine bay. And you got bling so you might as well sho0w it off. I love it!

Thanks kanvasman, I didn't want to mention that but I didn't like covering up the march system. I can't take all the credit I built on what another forum member (riggs74) had started.
