Default Correct Finish

Hello everybody and thank you for the feedback in advance. I am restoring the arms on my 72 vet. And have a question for the part in the picture. What is the correct finish, mine were painted cleaned off the old paint and wanted to make sure before I go any further. Thanks bunch.

I don't think they were painted at all. Then when the Engine Compartment was blacked out in a giant hurry, they probably got some spray on the top side. Some cars probably more than others.

The control arm shafts, ball joints, and A-arms came already assembled to St. Louis. They were painted at their production factory. For your time period in 1972 the upper shaft could have been unpainted or painted. If painted so were the bushings, washers and bolts were also painted A-arm black. This comes from hundreds of un-restored Corvettes we have judged over the years.
The lower shafts were unpainted except for one Corvette at Bloomington that the left lower was painted but not the right. A 1972 un-restored one.
