Default 700R4 TV Cable

I just got my bracket in from Holley and the TV cable seems short or I'm not remembering how it was on the old carburetor. The geometry looks about the same on both brackets and carburetors. Does the TV cable move out more when the engine is running?

This is the point where the TV cable goes without pulling it much.

If I pull firmly it goes this far and the engine is not running.

I just don't want to mess up the transmission...

STOP.....not being rude, that does not look right and I don't want you to mess up...I went through this on mine and ended up not using that bracket or the one Holley said to use on the carb...my carb is older than yours...

Have you looked into how to make this adjustment and what it means?
First thing is to verify that you have WOT with the pedal floored.
Then, with a warmed up engine the TV cable should just connect with the slack taken out, but not pulling on the valve.
From here you should do a bunch of reading, many say the cable should pull the valve all the way when the throttle is floored, and it should start pulling when you first add throttle-this is where the proper geometry comes into play... Personally I like to use a gauge after its set to fine tune it. Check to see the PSI goes up with slight throttle movement and tape the gauge to the windshield what watch the shifts while you drive...

Just take your time with it...Sorry I did not give the complete procedure, many opinions on which way is best..

Hi, from the looks of it your TV cable ratchet adjuster is fully retracted, so if you connect the cable and get someone to floor the accelerator gently while you watch what is happening the cable adjuster should move forward leaving the cable correctly adjusted. If you don't want to risk this push in the stop on the ratchet(its just above your thumb in pic 1) and you can manually move the cable adjuster towards the carb lever and see if there is enough cable to allow the throttle to be fully open at the same time the TV cable id fully extended.

I watched some videos and now I have a better understanding of what the TV cable does and how to adjust it. I assume when I took it off the old bracket I pressed the button while trying to unhook the lock tabs. Which makes sense to me now. So basically my understanding is at WOT the cable should be tight and straight which means the valve is fully open.

The bracket works great and when the accelerator pedal is floored the carburetor is wide open. I do want to replace the accelerator cable as a lock tab is broken off. This makes me wonder if I need to order an accelerator cable for an 81 which has a carburetor? I see 75-81 accelerator cables at Zip and Corvette Central which look like the one I have.

One more Bubba item removed from the C3

Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like you got it....

So basically my understanding is at WOT the cable should be tight and straight which means the valve is fully open.
It is equally important, maybe more so, that there is little to no slack in the cable when the throttle is at idle, warm engine.. You want the valve to start opening as soon as the throttle moves...and as stated it should bottom out at WOT. The way to achieve both is to have the geometry right, basically the distance that the cable stud is from the throttle pivot determines how much "throw" you have, closer to the pivot less travel and etc. There's more to it but I can't explain it...
