76 corvette ignition switch actuator rack
I recently bought a 76 corvette and I can’t turn the key far enough back to remove the key. I took apart the steering column and changed the lock cylinder but it didn’t help. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe a dumb question but it has gotten me in the past. Do you have the shift tube lever at the end of the column in the full up position? Outside of that I would pull off the ignition switch on the bottom of the column if you have the column out of the car, and see if it would move then. After that the answer is probably in the rack and sector assembly.

Could the cable have a kink in it. If not I guess a new cable .may fix it. I would check further though and see if there is anything obvious keeping the cable from reaching.

Look at how the cable is connected to the transmission. It should be on the reverse lever so that it only allows the key out when the car is in reverse.
