Default Complete Dash Swaps

Hey. I tried search but everything was too exclusive (ie wil X dash work with Y gauges).

As far as body fitment. Would a 79 dash fit in a 73? Just talking about the complete. Don’t care about gauges or any OE component. I’m working on a custom and looking to know if I start with a 79 complete dash and rework it, will:

1: bolt/screw up in stock body lines for a 73

2: match with door curves

thanks!

I can't tell you for sure but I know that the A pillar trim that touch the 78 dash, for example are different than the earlier 73's. And the top piece that goes to the A pillar trim is different than the earlier C3s, mostly because of the mirror but maybe the dimensions also. This is one of those things where you won't know until you try. For example, I have a 78 and I replaced the front bumper with a fiberglass ACI bumper. I got it all together and really didn't like the bumperettes. Not a problem, I can just cut them off and reglass it. But while I am at it, here in SC we do not have front license plates. I thought why not just get a center grill from a '73 and cut out a hole where the plate is supposed to go. Well, it was about 1/2" too narrow for the grill to fit. I figue out a way to do it, mount the center grill and realize ( there is no instruction book on this stuff) that the thickness of the 73 grill is a little different than the 78 side grills. I am into this deep now so I pull the trigger and buy some 73 side grills. Guess what. They are about 2 inches longer than the 78 grills, so I had to cut out more of my at once time perfectly good 78 ACI bumper. The signal light housing worked though! Here is what I ended up with, I still have to adjust the center grill down a little bit but by the time I tweak it I am happy with the results. I am just starting to get it ready for paint. But it was along way to get there. I cannot even imagine the issues that would come up with replacing the dash. Put an ad in the FOR sale side looking for a used dash and see how it will work....

Yes it'll fit no problem. I bought my '71 with a full '79 dash and interior installed in it. I unscrewed it all an installed the correct '71 interior with no issues, it all fits together!
