Default OT-Computer Help

I had a major glitch today. And had to re-install some software with Windows ME. How do I get rid of that "My Network Places" icon on my desktop?

Paul, you have a couple of options, one is drag it to the "Recycle Bin" and drop it or right click on it and click delete. Both of these options will only move the icons to the recycle bin till you emty it.

Tom,
There is no right click/delete option on that icon. And it can't be moved to recycle.

Your first problem is that you are using Windows ME. I know with 98 I can use TweakUI and tell it which options (and icons) I want and don't want. It may work for you as ME is also a Windows 9x operating system. But since you did not have it before but do not there is probably a way to get it to work otherwise. Another thing that may do it is to right click on the desktop, go to properties and then go to Effects. There is a list of icons. If you don't have this, look around a bit. I've never worked with ME because it is just a terrible operating system.

They don't call it the "Manure Enriched" edition for nothing.

The "My Network Places" icon is used by other applications and if you
"mess" with the icon you could break other things.

Why do you want to remove it.?

I know. It is just one extra icon. It can't be that annoying. I would think using ME would be more annoying than that icon.

:iagree:

The best thing I did was get rid of ME. That system crashed weekly.

It was not there this morning. I spent 90 minutes with Bell Sympatico this afternoon trying to resolve an ISP speed question. After reconfiguring this and that, it turns out that my request of several weeks ago for "Ultra" service beyond high-speed (HSE) that I have had for more than a year could not be accepted because I am more than 5 km past a switching station. I was assured I would not be be billed for Ultra service. I have been! And as Ultra failed to function they defaulted to Basic DSL rather than HSE. Hence the slow speed. And much overbilling. And now this icon on my desktop for home networking. And my identity was lost in the Corvette Forum. Had to get a new password. Etc.......I am tired
