Default 500cfm too small?

I think I know the answer to this question already but I figured I'd get your thoughts. I thought I had a 600cfm all this time and just now decided to run the p/n and found out it's only a 500cfm. I have had some carburetor issues and until now figured I just needed to tune the darn thing. I guess I had better step up to a larger one, huh? Suggestions? have heard (read in another post) that Demon makes a nice carb designed for the ZZ4 motor, although I don't know what p/n it is...I'll keep looking. Any other recommendations?

Thanks everyone!

:iagree: or Holley 650 dp with mech. secondaries, if you go with a Speed Demon you would probably be best going with a vac sec. as it is more forgiving if over carbed. It seems that the Speed Demons flow more than there comparably sized Holley's or Q-jets.

Holley 670 Street Avenger Part #: 0-80670 is a good match to a ZZ4 :D

Really, 750 for a BB or SB?

What do you guys think of this one?

A bit pricey but is it worth it?

Thanks.

The stock q-jet is 750 cfm, BB and SB. The key is the vac secondaries which would allow only as much flow as the engine could handle. If it had mech secondaries then it could easly over flow for the smaller/base engines.

Hmmmmmm... I've got an Edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm, vac. sec.) on mine, but it's a pretty mild combo-so I think it's adequate for my setup. Would the same hold true if I did a heads/cam swap? Since we're on the subject...(I don't want to hijack your post MM)

If the is carb. what I think it is perfect, I hear that they were going to start selling carbs. prejetted for certain crate enigines.

If this is the case then Berry Grant has tuned in this carb for your specific engine, it don't get much better than that.
  :hurray:

By the way they are suppose to start selling the six pack setup again (three duces, 3x2) again. If they do then they need to preset them for crate engines too, this is stuff gear head dreams are made of.
 :D

Would be very hard to do for a crate engine as they do not know the application, too many varables such as exhaust systems.

Your right, but they're doing it or will be soon. It kind of makes me wonder what they set as the baseline they used.

If they based it on with headers I think they would pretty much have it nailed down.

76 Red--- I'm buying a 383 crate motor this fall and going with Speed Demon 750, mechanical secondaries. But have a Holley Street Avenger 670 that will have been used for a total of 10 months after I pull the stock 350 out, and will be selling it really cheap, I have a guy who might be interested, but let me know if you're interested too

1979 L-82. Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake Manifold-Edelbrock 600 CFM Carb-Accel HEI Ignition-True Duals-No Cats-No Emissions Equipment (!)-TH350 w/ a Hurst-4.56 gears...and more on the way...
600 is fine for now, depends on the future setup- 750 is not always too big for a 350.

Thanks everyone. I ended up purchasing a "Crate Demon" from Summit. It's supposedly spec'd out for a ZZ4 and it's 650cfm so hopefully it will work out good for me. The guys said they have sold a bunch of them and have had no complaints (not that they would admit to a complaint but they are usually pretty good to deal with).

Thanks again for all your suggestions!
