We just recently swapped out the tired L48 with a new Summit crate engine. Many issues with the swap but we were able to solve them. We installed all new hose, vacuum lines, ect. We also installed a new OEM brass radiator and hose but no matter what we do the lower radiator hose leaks after sitting, Suggestions?
Something tells me the is a deviation in the diameter of the lower hose end and the Radiator port.
Most likely, the hose end is a smidge oversize for unknown reasons.
Any coolant hose that refuses to seal-up can be persuaded with an RTV.
I have had to use Permatex clear RTV on the lower Rad bib to get a good seal. The trick is to rotate the hose back & forth to smear the sealant evenly.
Then let it sit overnight before adding coolant.
There are also much better hose clamps available today that have better clamping force than those styles of 40 yrs ago.
