Default Advice needed. Somehow snapped my strut rod bracket.

I'm guessing this piece was partially cracked when I bought it and I didn't catch it. Most of the rear suspension components looked pretty good & new so yeah... My bad.

Anyway, here's how it looks :

I've already ordered a replacement bracket. It's on the way. I have a couple questions about the swap that hopefully some of you might have some wisdoms to help with...

Will it be extra difficult to remove the strut rod from the severed portion of the bracket? If so, what tools can I have at the ready to limit that extra difficulty?

Also, what other parts need to go in with this bracket? I understand that it houses some bushings where the struts enter it. So there's that. Anything else?

Thank you all in advance!

The previous owner installed heim joints on the struts so that will make your job easier as there are no bushings with that setup. Basically 4 bolts to remove the remnants of the bracket and the inner heim joints.

I would be concerned about the condition of the threads in the differential housing. I have never seen anything like this type of failure.

The bracket itself is not a hard swap, and since your parts aren’t original you shouldn’t be dealing with 50 year old rusted seized bolts.
as mentioned above, did the bolts shear off in the diff housing? If the sheared bolts can be easily removed that’s one thing, but if they are stuck or the threads are ruined….. well If it was me I would not try any drilling/tapping with the diff in the car, I’d remove it and do the work on a bench.

Really curious how this happened? Did you hit a massive pothole or something?

@randallsteel I haven't had a gander up into the differential yet to verify... More to come on that.

And I definitely didn't romp any potholes or run over any road debris. This had to have been a pre existing condition. I was making a right turn at about 7 mph. Heard the snap and immediately pulled it over and checked it out. Luckily I was close enough to turn around and get it back on the driveway.

Default Update

I got under there today to remove the busted bracket. I'm thinking that the heat shield fell down beforehand, because it's missing a screw or two. Not sure. That snagged on the road while I was turning and ripped the bracket clean apart.

Anyway, I didn't realize I needed to completely remove both strud rods to put a new bracket on... Gotta replace the castle nuts and pins once I take those off the shock mount I believe... Ran out of daylight

Gonna finish it another day this week if I can.
