I've been stuck for a couple months trying to get the key to turn from the Off-Lock position. Car is a '72 350 Auto. With the Driver's door open, the buzzer will sound when I insert the key, but I cannot rotate they key from the Off-Lock position.
Notes:
- The steering column lever under the brake master cylinder is in the 1 o'clock position (previous owner already disconnected the cable and tied the lever up with a piece of wire, see photo).
- Car is in Park (have attempted shifting to other gears, no change).
- I have rocked the car forward/backward to attempt to alleviate any binding that may be causing the key to not turn.
- I have attempted to use the two similar keys that I suspect are the door/ignition keys (both insert fully into ignition) with no change in outcome.
Thanks Sunflower! I had reviewed that thread already and haven't found anything that specifically describes this issue aside from something possibly being broken inside the steering column. Hoping that it could be something else before I need to go down that path.
Hammerhead - Thanks! I have been attempting to shift it side to side and also in different positions of the tilt/telescope with no success.
Mel - The previous owner has passed but per his widow this wasn't an issue she was aware of. Key I'm using matches the link you sent.

I had to replace my ignition key cylinder because it wouldn't turn. My key wouldn't insert fully, about 1/8 inch short. I suspect that the insides of it fell apart.

Thanks for the info! I'll take a closer look and verify my key is fully seated. I assumed it was fully seated since the buzzer was successfully triggering, but I'll take a look when I'm home tonight.
