Hi all, I am having to replace the brake booster in my 78 4 speed manual transmission, after a number of hours I have managed to remove 3 of the nuts holding it in place but I am struggling with the last nut which is up near the clutch pedal area....I cannot reach it from underneath the dash, I can see it but that's all...can I remove the speedometer/tach gauges and get to it from the gauge area?....if anyone has done this please could you please let me know how you did this...many thanks

I've never done it and hope it stays that way, but, folks seem to be able to get at it with various extensions and flex-joints on their ratchet wrenches without removing the cluster or dash pad. One common recommendation is to remove the driver's seat so you don't have to be twisted like a pretzel as you do the job.
I have been through this. It's not too bad with an auto trans car. Much harder on a stick car. It's the upper left nut you are having an issue with? I had to use a 2 foot long socket extension and swivel, plus, the speedo/tach cluster was out. You have my sympathy.
My son did mine seat out he was able to get up in their with a ratchet and short extension but about an 18 inch long extensions is the easiest.Believe it or not took about 20 minutes but then messed with the clip for the brake pedal horseshoe clip for a long time.Would recommend leaving the brake pin in and unscrewing the rod as the clip is in a very tight spot.
