Alright, time to finish what the previous owner started. Do I use any primer on the deluxe door panels, and if so, what type of primer? Same thing for metal surfaces? Does the clearcoat afterwards really help, or should I skip?
Any idea of how much those 16oz spray cans cover? I've only got the 2 door panels and t-top covers to do.
I've got two unopened cans of medium saddle interior paint from Corvette America. They were mistakenly shipped to me, and they didn't ask me to return them, so I have them for sale if you're interested. (jeffsclassics@yahoo.com)
I haven't used interior dye, so I'm not sure about your questions.
Jeff
They make a primer for the plastic, but I've never used it when painting the same color. Clean everything with a powerful degreaser, make sure it's well rinsed off and then wipe everything down with isopropyl alcohol, let it dry and spray numerous light coats of the dye. It works pretty good on hard, non-flex parts, dash pads and door panels, etc., not as good on seats. It covers good but can rub off on your azz.
I wouldn't try it on metal parts, I don't think it will bind good enough without some kind of primer there.
If you are going back with the same color then 2 or 3 cans should do it, without a problem.
corvette america told me to wipe it down with iso alcohol , and go to it. It doesn't cover nearly as much as you would hope , I had to reorder 3 times. Don't bother spraying your seats
What they said. I'd recommend the SEM interior paint--seemed to be more durable than the other kind I tried (don't remember the brand, got it from Autozone).
I did this to an El Camino that I have up for sale. Like everyone said clean and rub with alcohol. I did not prime the plastic or vinyl parts but I did use the primer on the metal pieces. I clear coated only the parts which you come in constant contact with like the door handles. Forgot doing any kind of fabric or the seats, the stuff will come off in time. I also did some of the interior part on an El Camino I am driving about a year ago. Door panels and arm rest. They seem to be holding up fine.
