The procedure I described is to preset the IACs for startups, not for idle, and occurs after key off. This position is different from IAC idle position. The procedure described by Buccaneer resets the IACs for the idle position and occurs after the conditions are met while driving. It is possible, although unlikely, that these conditions may not occur during a drive cycle. These procedures are used to reset IACs and zero out any unexpected deviations that may occur during normal IAC operations. IACs move in steps and the ECM counts these steps. The ECM also needs a starting point and this would be the full stop position (pintle seat) determined during the reset procedures. Carbon build up on the pintle head, pintle shaft and pintle seat can cause deviations.
