Default 73 Tilt Telescope Column Question

Hello.

I am reinstalled my steering box and I can’t get the steering column shaft to fully extend into the rag joint connection.. It is about and inch short. I have removed and reconnected the rag joint a couple times over the years and never had this problem before. Suggestion? Thnx. Jim

Is the bolt the on the clamp collar completely removed? If not do so before sliding on to the steering box shaft.

I have mine apart right now and it is 1" collapsed as well.
It should pull back out.
If you measure from the end of the shaft, to the bearing retainer face, it should be 4.70"
According to Jim Shea, GM Steering Engineer, who designed and built these.

Bolt(s) are out. I will get an accurate shaft measurement. Thnx guys!
Question, when fully installed, how much length of splined area of the shaft should be exposed?
