....the parts are insane, and the knowledge how to work on one of those is nill. The dealers don't even work on those things...they pull the motors out and send them to the mfg...think its Mercury, for major engine repair.
Corrrect, Mercury marine. Some hi perf. engines are assembled on the marine assembly for higher quality, better balancing. This was done on the HEMI as well.
Would not mind a LT5 & would work on it. A 383 has the same bore/stroke ratio, can make more power, is lighter & can look basically stock.
I wouldn't touch the ZR motor with a 10 foot pole, even if it were legit....the parts are insane, and the knowledge how to work on one of those is nill. The dealers don't even work on those things...they pull the motors out and send them to the mfg...think its Mercury, for major engine repair.
That was the case for major engine repair when they were under warranty. Not anymore. They really aren't THAT bad to work on, but the COST is another story on a lot of parts. Some aren't so bad. But all in all, why put yourself in the possible headache situation when there are a lot better hp/$ crate motors available?
There are a pretty good number of knowledgeble ZR-1 mechanics, but you just have to know how to find them (ZR1 net, other owners, etc)
I emailed the person that appears to be the original owner of the Ebay account that is selling the questionable engine. It looks to me like his account was hijacked, in fact, the more I search, the more it looks like an account hijacking.
It is happening more and more on Escam and PayFraud. I mean Ebay and PayPal.
I am in contact with who appears to have been the original owner of the Ebay account before it's name change this past Monday. I wish this weren't a private auction (again, showing likely fraud) so that the person I think owned the account could contact the bidders...but I don't know if we can intervene in time. I'll let you all know more when I hear back from him again.

Such nonsense. Parts are not insane and these engines are not that tough to work on. Come on over to the ZR-1 forum and slum a little. You might learn a lot. :D

Yeah if you can learn how to work on any engine that means you had to learn how to fix it. and if you can learn how to work on a regular motor you can work on the big scary LT-5
and as for the 4000 buy it now auction it was a scam!!!!!!!
ebay removed it alread!
