Whenever you rebuild a Trailing Arm, and you end up putting a left Bearing Carrier in a right Arm, the easy fix is to just grind the flat spot on the Shock Mount the entire length. This way you have a universal part. Of course the Splines won't do any good anymore but the Shock itself should be able to handle it.

You might not like the results however. When the QA-1 Shock snapped off it got tangled up with the 1/2 shaft which resulted in the out board U-Joint snapping off. Yes there was Fiberglass damage to.

Or was it the other way around? Maybe the U-Joint took out the Shock ? The Hammer Welts on the 1/2 Shaft shows that it was put in good.

The last car I had in my shop had another good one. They stripped out the Castle Nut on the Axel. But since Cotter Pins are way under rated they should be capable of holding the Axel Wheel combo in place with out the need for threads. Just to make sure it's all good use a Nail instead of a Cotter Pin. When I got the Car up on my lift I could feel excessive Bearing Clearance and I didn't need any dial indicators. Disassembled I found they had honed out the Bearings to make it slip fit. Sure glad they used a heavy duty Nail.

Not axle bubba axle issue but a bubba LS swap pic.
I bought a 67 Nova project. Real SS car no rust.
PO got totally hosed by a somewhat local LS swap "expert".
Before and after pics.

Not uncommon to find a lot of bad stuff done by people who should not be working on their cars or worse working on others cars
