I just replaced my distributor with an HEI unit with the mechanical tach hook up. The tach worked for a hew miles and then the cable broke. I’m guessing it was original to the car. Anyway, I would like to order a replacement cable (inner and outer) but I’ve been reading that many vendors are sending out cables that are too long. I don’t know the length of mine since I haven’t pulled it but it’s for a 1970 454. Do you know the correct length and a good place to buy one? Also, what should a person use to lubricant the new cable once it arrives? Thanks.
I bought one from JD corvette in California it was even listed with a different part number than the one that all the dealers sell which i believe is a cruise control cable and they told me it was the correct one.Come to find out it is 24 inches long same as cruise control cable. My distributor has the right angle adapter on it so i'm going to install it anyways and hopefully that will help with the length.I looked for a long time for the correct one and have come to the conclusion that they are not available anywhere over the counter.
The new cable was 20.5 inches. The cost was $33.75 plus 14.00 shipping from Deluxe speedometer and cable. It came right away and looks to be good quality.
