Actually, it was a NAPA parts counter guy that put me onto the metric dimensions being a little "small" in width.
He said you may have trouble. You may not.
Thank you to all who chimed in here on this one. carriljc has all types of belts! I get frustrated when I go into the local Auto Parts Stores and there are teenagers behind the counter. Yes, I am happy these kids are working but when you ask them about a part for a 1973 Corvette. Not gonna cut it!
" Do you have a VIN? I gotta have a VIN or I can't function. I can't look-up numbers.
I can't operate the cash register w/o a VIN. What part do you need he says.
My VIN is not going to help you. I told the counter person.
Why not? He asks.
Because the VIN is twice as old as you. Anybody work here over 50?
I used to run 1 belt for the alt, damper and water pump until it broke and the temp shot up on my bb with in a 1/4 mile. Now only 2 belts. Here's how I made it a 5 minute job for the non adjustable belt around the damper and water pump.First spend about $5.00 on a threaded rod(I think it's 5/16 fine thread, not sure as it's been about 30 years since I brought it).Same size that threads thru your water pump.Buy 3 nuts too.Cut the threaded rod long enough to go thru the water pump, pulley and fan blade with a little extra for the nuts.Screw the rod thru the water pump and double nut it.Slide your pulley and fan blade with the belt on till the pulley touches the water pump the put your nut on the threaded rod and tighen it up.the pulley will pop right on as will the fan blade.the other three bolts will go right on too.The double nuts go on the engine side of the water pump and keep the threaded rod at 12 oclock.I hope I explained it correctly, but it's very easy to do that way.
I don't know about you but my local parts places have let me rummage around for hoses and belts..... over the years and different places. It's one reason I kinda just let the ignorant computer questions slide..... sometimes I tell them I'm fabricating things......and other times I look up the parts on their store websites so just ask for the part number itself.
