The flashing light on my left cornering light group on my 1980 is not flashing. All other lights are working. So I'm assuming it's a bulb issue. I would like to know the easiest way to get it out. As the unit is 45 years old no doubt there may be some fragile parts. Based on what I can see of it (picture below) I see there is a tab that looks as if it will drop the housing, but I have serious concerns that it will be brittle and could likely break. Another option would be to pull the nuts off the studs if that will drop the whole unit. I read elsewhere that the bulb could simply be rotated out, but putting some force on the pieces I get to did not immediately move them.
Please provide me with any guidance you may have on this.
I’ve seen a hose with little cuts in it pushed against the bulb, then twisted to get it out. If the bulb decides to come apart, you don’t risk being cut that way. Same thing if a bulb in say a lamp or fixture in your home… if the glass portion of the bulb twists off and leaves just the base of the bulb in the socket, you could jamb that rubber hose in there and use it to unscrew the base of the bulb. Shut the power off before doing so (of course).
Thanks all for the tips. On the issue of a possible LED, no chance of that. I bought the car new.
I did go ahead and gave the bulb base a twist and it popped out. Then before pulling the bulb out I decided to turn it on. It decided to work. So I put it back in. It still worked.
Glad it worked for you. You might have a bit of oxidatiob where the bulb makes it's contacts. No-Ox-Id is a great way to clean up those contact points.
