72 trans lock out cable
Disconnected lock out cable from upper arm lever. The cable is kinked near the reverse linkage.
Still need to manually pull up the lever and place trans into neutral to remove key. Do I have a problem in the steering collum?

You need to tie the lever in the up position.

If you are going to replace the cable (once it has kinked, there is no “unkinking”), clean and lube every pivot in the system. The reproduction cables are reportedly not as stout as the originals.
