Yesterday I went to start up my car and after it tried to turn over, there was a loud crack/snap which I am guessing was the clutch teeth disengaging. I may have let off the clutch before it turned over.
Next try it started right up and drove fine. No signs of any damage (parts on the floor or fluid leak).
details - 69 4seed (M21 4.11/350 L-46). This has never happened before. I just had a ton of work done and some of it was to fix the shifter (a bracket had to be welded back in place).
Any thoughts on if I am correct in my diagnosis and should I be concerned or what to look out for on future drives.
PS after I came in from my ride I started it up a few more times at it was fine each time. Thanks
.
There are no teeth on the clutch and if you start in neutral letting the clutch in too soon should have not caused a noise effect.
On the other hand the starter bendix gear has teeth that mesh with the flywheel when you start the car. If the mesh of the gears are slightly off you may hear a noise.
