I have the same problems with my 82 is the relay located on the passenger side of the firewall? I'm out of town atm so just trying to remember where I saw that relay...
JT
It's at the passenger side firewall bolted to the harness cover.
I just tested for power going into it and out to the blower motor... I had nothing coming out.
It sure looks like your relay push on connector and your old relay have/had at least one corroded terminal. That may have been the reason it didn’t work. You should repair that push on connector in post # 12.

thank you... I did, I took it apart, cleaned the contact and remade as much of the missing plastic as I could so the new contact is tight... looked like it had an arching contact before
A melted power connector seems to be a poplar problem with an 82...
Looking at the diagram if the climate control selector is in any position other than off power is applied to the low resistor and if the fan speed is in low only that resistor gets power. Select medium low or medium and one of the other resistors joins force with the low resistor to increase voltage to the blower. In any of these speeds the power is passed through the high speed relay via the normally closed contact to the blower. When hi is selected the high speed relay is energized and full 12 volts is sent to the blower motor.
So if the blower does not work at all in any speed then it's either the fuse or the ground.
The relay seems to be common and I need to replace mine as well as the plug and figure out which of the two above is faulty for me.
Just wanted to add to this thread my findings on my 82.
After adding some dielectric grease to the plug I was able to plug it all the way in. Notice the difference in depth to the previous photo which was as far as I could get the plug in and even though it worked like that it was sure to fail soon.
