Help!!! Power lock problem
Hi,
I have an 81 with power door locks (+ alarm) and I am facing the following probelm, I hope somone can help me.
After having a problem with door stuck I decided to change the latches, handles and door cilinder to have all the stuff brand new.
I am prett confident that i put everything togather correctly and both doors close very well now. I’ll try to post a video.
The problem is that now, when i connect the two rods of the actuators to the latches, the key wont turn to open (it should push the rods down i guess).
When the rods are disconnected to the latches, the key opens and closes well in both doors as well as when the rods are free, I can move them up and down using the power lock swithces in the internal part of the doors.
I guess that, to test the mechanism, I should be able to push the rods of the actuator down (when they are not connected to the latch) with the hands cause this is what the latch is supposed to do when the key is turned to open….but it seems they move only electrically through the switches and this does not allow they key to push down the rods.
Anybody can help me?

You might have the rods adjusted wrong. Try disconnecting them from the manual rod. Put the key in the door and turn it to either lock or unlock. Say for discussion you lock the door with the key. Now push down on the adjuster. That is what happens when you push the lock button to LOCK. now hook up the 2 rods. And make sure both doors are set up the same. It might be as simple as this.

I see but, even if the internal switch moves the actuators up and down (and so the rods), if I try to push down or pull up the the rods manually (cause that’s what the latch should be supposed to do when I turn the key) they are kind of stiff.
the result is that when I connect the rods to the latch with the clips, the key won’t turn. It’s stuck.
It’s strange cause it’s was not like this before I changed the latches (and they work very well now). Could it be that the lock/unlock is triggered by the key through the anti theft switches? (Those rounded ones connected to the door lock cilinder?). If it was so, it’s not the key/latch movement/pressure pulling up/ down the actuators but the rotating of the key only gives an electronic lock/unlock trigger to the actuators thanx to the anti theft switch.
but I don’t know…if they are called “anti-theft switches” it means that they should just be part of the alarm system and not involved in the power lock process.

I can’t say for sure on that since my car did’t have that set up, but you might be correct. Maybe they cause too much resistance for the motors to push and pull. Maybe take them off and see if it works. Then you will know yes that’s it or no, you need to look further
