If you want a nice factory new look, contact Jerry MacNeish @ z28camaroman@juno.com or 1-410-781-0418. He just completed a buddy's manifold and it looked like a piece of jewelry. Very nice work, and cheap.

I like to use Eagle One Type B aluminum wheel cleaner. It's an etching cleaner, and will get just about anything off. You simply spray it on, then use soft brushes (toothbrushes are great for the little crevices and tight spots), then rinse with water. Don't let it sit on there for more than a minute or so, but I frequently clean it more than once to get the tough spots clean. It has worked well for me, but it the stains have been there for a long time it may not be as effective. You could media blast it with glass beads or something even lighter (walnut hulls?) but be sure to protect the thread bosses and sealing surfaces.
I don't clearcoat my manifolds. I haven't seen a clear that held up well over the long haul, and I think when they look yellow and plasticy its worse than just being dirty. But, other Forum members may know of some good clears if you want to use one.

Many times I have cleaned up aluminum intakes. I first bead blast them with #6 glass beads to remove all dirt. I then install brand new #6 glass beads and put the final finish on the intake. It make them shine like new. Old glass beads give it a sand blasted look but new beads add a shine.
I then light clear coat. I do an intake every couple of years. Seems my motors are constantly comming apart for changes.
