Default 70 convertible top cable and spring location.

Recovering my 70 convertible top. The bows have been completely rebuilt and I have no idea where the tension cable springs mounts to on the header. No holes or anything else. The tension cables came with two pop rivets but do they go on the back of the cable and the spring hooks into the header somehow? Any help would be be greatly appreciated. Here is a pic of the front header where the spring should go but no hole🤷‍♂️

I am probably off base with what you are asking but I happen to have my 72 top off and on the ground so took a couple of pics. Here is where my tension cable is connected on each side. Don't see a spring.

72 might be different. Here is what my cables look like. I see where the back of the cable goes but I don’t see where the spring end goes exactly. I do know it goes to the front header of the top somewhere 🤷‍♂️

I see you gentleman are doing something that I will need to be doing in the near future. I have the convertible top "parts" to replace the convertible but not the experience so I have one of Al Knoch's DVD's that shows you "step by step" how to replace the convertible top on an early C3. Now that I have the parts I wanted to sand blast the frame and refinish it before putting the new top on the frame for good. The top and all the needed parts are from: https://alknochinteriors.com/ This company has most of the parts you will need to replace the convertible, car seats, dash panels and the very best Carpet set based on the original factory drawings. The owner Al is a great guy and a very quality oriented gentleman. He has gone way overboard to take care of his customers and this is why he has a big following. Q-u-a-l-i-t-y is the only way he does things. I know as I am one of his loyal customers and have been for decades.

Fortunately I have the old hard top to use while I rebuild the convertible top, I just hate driving the car with the hard top on, with the convertible top even less. This car was made to be a convertible and I like driving it that way. When there is no AC and other than naturally moving air the top down driving is my favorite. A simple Four Speed and 427 can make so much fun, especially when you drive it like you stole it....

Actually the Astro-ventilation works really well as I keep the rubber flaps clean and the parts moving appropriately. It is harder to notice with the top down but when you have a top on the C3 it can buffet inside like many other cars do. With the astro-ventilation working properly the car doesn't have the buffeting like other cars anymore, it helps make a nice ride with a top. What is it like inside a Non A/C early C3 BB Corvette with Astro-ventilation?

Good Luck with your work and please keep us posted on how it goes and what you learned doing it. Some of us are all ears, so to speak......

i purchased everything from Al knoch including the ancient Thumb drive video. Not that impressed with spending the money for a complete kit and then you find out that you have to purchase an instruction video that was made in the 80s and is not that great. Also there are parts that come with the kit that are not in the video so it took me about 4 days to finally get them to call me back with the info. Anyway we shall see how it goes.

I just ended up doing mine. I know I didn't do mine totally correct. As I couldn't do the straps on mine, and I messed up there.
But I did make a video if it helps you any.

This was my first time doing it, so take it for what it is. And hope it helps.
