Default One piece oil pan gasket, Big Block, suggestions please...

Hi Guys,

Need your input. I rebuilt my engine going on 3 years ago this spring. Well, the rear main is leaking. It has leaked since rebuild slightly but getting worse with time. I plan on pulling the pan and changing the rear seal, and pan gasket. What brand, part number, where to purchase, the seal and one piece pan gasket. I do not want to be laying under the car fighting with the old 4 pc. type gasket set. All comments and suggestions are welcome. I plan on changing this only once! The details are: 1969 427 ci, 4 bolt mains. Also, I do have the Mellings high volume oil pump (m-77hv). Could this be the root cause of my leak?

Thanks,
Dwayne

I have bought the parts, but not installed them yet.

The oilpan seal is Fel-Pro 1884R 1-piece seal ($37 at summit, but their picture is wrong) and rear main was included in R.A.C.E set Fel-Pro 2703 ($24 at summit), but I assume that you can buy it separate. I found them on Summitracing.com, but you can find them everywhere...

Good luck!

No doubt about it...the best quality and easiest to install.

Yes, that part number sounds familiar. I had to special order (Canada...) this gasket, but it was totally worth it. The quality was excellent and made installation from below a breeze. I never used any 'helper clips'. Used just a tiny bit of RTV at the corners and torque the pan to spec. But you must use remove all old gasket martial, silicone and oil residue.

PS- recently heard a good tip here to use some cable ties to temporarily hold the gasket in place as you position the pan. Then snip and remove them just before you snug the bolts.
