Hey PrarieShark,

Try the following site. It may help.
http://www.idavette.net/facts.htm

They have some pretty good basic info.

Would not it be 6,502? The number of Pace Cars produced. Don't believe that they were available as an option until '79.

They were all 25th Anniversary cars. You could order a special paint option (RPO B2Z) that was a two tone silver paint job.

There were 46,776 1978s produced in three models: the base sport coupe, The Pace Car and the Silver Anniversary. There were 6,502 Pace Cars and 15,283 with the Silver Anniversary paint. That leaves 24,991 base coupes. Only the Pace Cars had the front and rear spoilers. So 40,274 were without and 6,502 with. Those spoilers carried over to 1979 as RPO D80 and 6,853 of the total production run of 53,807 were so equipped.

Paul,
Hate to disagree, but there were only two models, the sport coupe and the Pace car. All 78's were 25 Anniversary cars. You could order a special paint combo on the Sport Coupe, RPO B2Z - Silver Anniversary Paint. But that was not a seperate model, just the standard Sport Coupe with a different paint job. Now B2Z did require that you also purchase the Sport Mirrors and Alumn Wheels. But still, it was not a seperate model.

I agree with you. RPO B2Z Silver Anniversary paint was applied to the base sport coupe. I should have been clearer on that.

*Edit*-To put RPO B2Z (25th Anniversary paint) into a visual context for some readers, this is what it looked like (at least in miniature).

And this is the Pace Car.

Yes I knew that all 78s were anniversary cars but I could not remember if the silver paint also came with spoilers. :D Thanks for clearing things up.
