Default Cowl induction hood questions

I am attempting to repair the cowl induction hood on my 1975 corvette. The solenoid that opens and closes the fresh air door was bad and the rod or plunger (not sure of the exact term) on the replacement is 1/2 an inch shorter than the one from the factory. Therefore, the rod is fully extended when hooked to the air door and the solenoid is pushed far enough forward that it is touching the clip at the back where the power wire connects. Has anyone else run into this problem? Does anyone know if original solenoids are able to be repaired and if so, who repairs them? I can run a wire through the end of the rod and wrap it around the little tab on the air door to make it work but I don't want to half-*** it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everybody!

The solenoids can be found on eBay, it may be a while before you see one listed. Make sure you buy the one made for a Corvette as other GM Cars had them. The switch that engages the accelerator pedal is a pain to work on. Don’t rush out and buy a new one like I did. Use a volt meter to ensure the switch is closing the circuit. There are several posts on ways to make the accelerator engage the switch. The switches are supposed to be self adjusting, but neither of my switches did. I ended up using a large rubber grommet so that that the accelerator would make contact with the switch.
