Hi,
Another UK L81 owner has disconnected his ECU & wants to know how to get his rev counter to work again! I know a lot of you '81 owners have junked the computer, so how did you do it?
Thanks
Paul
Hi Stephen,
Yup, it's Wolf! He said it was running well, but it's doing about 12mpg!!! Ouch. Do you see him fairly often? If he's interested in selling his old Q-jet I'd be interested in "taking it off his hands" :)
Hey Paul, you couldn't turn him around before dumping the E4ME huh? I do hope you can get his old carb from him. I'll have you know that i did get together with my buddy who had the carb. We went out to his junk yard where he says he put it and couldn't find it anywhere. We looked for a good portion of the afternoon. :mad He seemed to think that it was on a car still, but I told him it probably wasn't because I had it in my hand just a year or more ago. I am going to go to another local shop here and see if the owner has any of these laying around.
BTW, I don't know anything about the tach. Mine quit working last summer, so I imagine before spring I'll at least know how to put a new board in it, or is it the filter that I need?????? I don't know for sure.
Hi Justin,
If there's any chance of grabbing his carb I will do (I'll let you know if I do), but thanks for spending an afternoon looking through a mates junk! If I can get another carb it will mean I won't have to change that solenoid needle, fix the large thread on the fuel inlet & fit bushes on the primary throttle shaft. Bolting another carb on seems a lot easier!
I've never had to look at how the tach works but I've got a circuit diagram for the tach filter & its test specs if it's any good to you? I can email it if you need it.
Stephen: If you're reading this, what he needs to do is have a look at the connectors to the ECU. One has the terminals numbered & the other is lettered. Join a wire to the terminal marked "P" (the TCC I/P to the ECU) & run it to a good earth (the battery post?) via a switch. Go for a test drive, get up to about 60mph in 3rd & hit the switch. This should get current flowing through the TCC relay (via the TCC brake switch) which should then throw & allow current to pass through the TCC solenoid, giving lockup. If it all works OK & he's happy, ask what he wants for his old, worthless, junk carb  It may be prudent to fit a line fuse in the wire, just in case.
