Hello I have a 1969 the casting is 39700 10 need help finding out what the stamp means on the block Need help fro someone who can decode this stamping ,, it a 39700 10 casting
It is a replacement block given the CE letters at the front of the assembly date. Not sure what the 3 is, but the sequence beginning 602 looks like an Arizona phone number and not a VIN stamp. From the pad surface, it doesn't look to have ever had any block deck work done to it.
Under the CE you can see some numbers can’t make the out .. AZ number don’t know about day it is a 350 block
Yeah, I can see what you're referring to. As far as I know, replacement engines only carried the replacement CE sequence stamp; anything else was added after it left the dealer's parts counter.
From the info in John Hinckley's CE article, I think this block was assembled in '73.

CE is Chevrolet Engine, colloquially referred to as Counter Exchange. Back in the day, when you went to the Parts Department at the Chevrolet dealer or an engine was replaced by the dealer under warranty, a CE stamped block was issued.
