'81 Corvette Window Woes
This ol' Vette has given me thanks this season by bringing up past gremlins with new ones. Originally when I purchased the car years ago, the blowout clip had been smacking the window for quite a long time, as you can see by the pictures I've attached on the drivers side. Recently, the window would go all the way up and then; drop back down a good quarter inch give or take (if you can see the attached video.) The regulator and motor were replaced by myself almost immediately when I first purchased the car give or take 5-6 years ago and hadn't done it until recently, and the window switch was also replaced for the 2nd time by me around 6 months ago due to the switch breaking; faulty part got stuck and broke off somehow.
On top of that, I did the all the seals myself with some stuff from Top Flight when I bought the car, but it was way too stiff. So I paid a local classic car shop a lot of money to do the seals 2-3 years ago; they were never right. I called them a few months ago and told them the seals were actually breaking down and causing issues, after referring them thousands of dollars worth of work they wouldn't as so much as give me a replacement set to do it myself and told me "seals break down after 2 years, try Permatex and super glue." I was stunned by that response.
So all of these issues lead to this;
When I was shutting my door yesterday, the window caught on the blowout clip and I noticed that the forward pillar door seal had been coming loose from the window hitting the clip. So, I took a clamp and my black automotive caulk, and fixed it right up. Right as rain, nice and tight. Yet the window was still catching the blowout clip but it DID NOT do this at all when I replaced the inner door panel window seal a few months ago, everything was good. As you can see from the photos after I was inspecting it, there is a significantly large gap on the driver side windshield and NOT on the passenger side. (FYI the clear silicone in the corner of the driver side door seals was NOT done by me. I brought that up with the shop when I got the car back and wasn't happy.)
So, in Layman's terms; could the window smacking the blowout clip cause the windshield trim to bend to cause a gap like that; and if so, would straightening it back out fix the window hitting the blowout clip? As for why the window wouldn't stay in its up position and instead likes to go down a quarter inch after I let go of the button; I have no idea what that could be about.
Sorry for the long winded post, and thank you for sticking with me.
