Mine was very hard to turn so I put a drop of oil on it but it's still too hard to set the time. I got a new clock replacement but it seems the only thing wrong was I could not set the time. Any clue how to loosen it up a bit?
I did find that if you pull on the shaft it will pop the clutch out and allow you to clean and lubricate between the clutch and the gear. After doing that a few times and spinning it in my drill while holding the gear it loosened up enough to be functional. The clutch is on the other side of that gear in the above photo.
I would oil up a small piece of crocus cloth and polish up that shaft, inside and out.... LPS 1 is your friend when lubricating small parts such as a clock....Don't use WD-40...
'82 factory clock is already quartz so a conversion is not required there. You can use the factory '82 quartz clock on the '80-'81 but it will not fool an NCRS judge because they say "QUARTZ" on the face if that matters to you. The reproductions are available ready to install with the correct face but the ticking is different with a quartz movement.
