I have a ’73 Corvette. The warning buzzer was disabled before, and I bought a new one, but the problem is that it stays on all the time and won’t stop. What could be causing this?
The seat belt relay is missing, and I disconnected the seat belt wire under the passenger seat.
How can I make the buzzer work properly again
for example, only when I open the door, the hood, turn on the lights, or when the seat belt isn’t fastened? What parts do I need to get it back to how it was originally.
The warning buzzer is only there for two purposes, your key is in the ignition and you open the door or someone is sitting without the seat belt on. Nothing to do with hood or lights.
If you disconnected the seat wiring and relay how do you expect the system to work?
Recommend you read the 1973 factory shop manual detailing how the system works.
The wire that turns on the buzzer is pretty far down in the steering column. I bought a new part (resembles a spring), but never had the guts to go down that far into the steering column. When one of the bearings wore out, I had a steering column guy install the spring when he replaced the bearings, but the buzzer still didn’t come on. I have moved on.
