93 LT-1 in aC3
Have a 72, thinking about putting a 93 LT-1 in it.
Now the idiot question---------
how about the computer?
Where to install?
I have seen other guys do it on the Forum, just need honest opinions.
Thanks
I put a 93 LT1 in my 79. I mounted the computer in a bracket below the radiator recovery tank on the passenger side fenderwell. It's easily accessable by removing the lower splash shield. (Make sure it's the exterior rated computer though, the one with thw heavy case and weatherproof plugs.) Then I removed the AC unit from the heater box, Didn't want the AC anyway, and I mounted the electrical junction box in this area. It has the injector fuses, fan relays Etc. I mounted the electric air injector pump on the cowl behind the windshield washer reservior, under the left fender. I used an external fuel pump, with braided stainless lines all the way up for supply, and the stock supply line for the return. ( although I haven't driven it yet, so I may have to do some tank modifications for sloshing). I also wired in the factory under dash diagnostic plug and check engine light. Accessories are a problem, you have to have a vette bracket and balancer, not an F body one.Check out vettedans site at http://www.vetteworksonline.com he's got one of the cleanest installations I've seen, and a ton of good info. good luck, keep posting.
i agree vettedans is a real clean install. :iagree: for my tpi install i have it behind the map pocket inside the car.
Hey 79yellowlt1 do you have anymore pics of the car?
A 93 LT-1 in a 72? Could you make this car for me pls? Put the LT1/bigblock hood on your car and badge it up as a 72 LT1, keep exterior appearance as stock as possible. I just want to be able to pop the hood, see the strange looks, and say, "Yes it is a genuine LT-1 !!" :) MJ
My computer is mounted on the backside of the passenger inner fender down low near the frame. And you have to do the LT1 decals. I had some LS1 decals made in the same font as the original and I get lots of comments on them.
why would you want to put an LT-1 in a smog exempt car? couldn't you get more power AND reliability for less?? it would be a hell of a lot easier too if you just built an injected 350. just my $.02
to date i have done a couple of these installs.....they are easy as heck once you've done it once...i'm putting the computer in the drivers side wheel well where the vac. canister was...i removed it because i am going to use my prototype electric headlight/wiper conversion kit...if any one wants a modernday c3 i'll build it.....but i think the lt-1s are great in these cars from mild to wild....hopefully with in the next year i can get into the ls-1 and making it tunkey...
I installed the PCM in front of the fan motor on the inter-fender. I never had a heat problem and it's easy to get to if need be. Check out my web page fot further details.
Good Luck,
Dan
For those installing in the eng comp, are the ecm's weather proof or did you weather proof them? Thought they where not since they are intalled in the passenger compartment.
why would you want to put an LT-1 in a smog exempt car?
Depending on what state you are in, the smog exemption still applies. My LS1 has all the smog equipment removed such as EGR, AIR, and no cats. I am getting at least 20-30 more Hp without all that crap. Still 100% legal and just as fuel efficient. In fact, I am getting over 25 mpg.

Re: 93 LT-1 in aC3 (markyerger)
Thanks for all that replied
The efficiency, and the ooommpphhhh from the later model years are what I am after.
Keep you posted.
ONE MORE QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!--
did you guys buy a new crate motor, or salvaged one?
Thanks
Mark
Guys, I'm very interested in this kind of project. I have a 69 project car with TH400 and no engine. What engine choices do I have or do you recommend?
A 90's fuel injected 350 sounds like a good way to go. Will they all fit the stock engine mounts and match up to the TH400 or are there incompatabilities I should know about? Any problems in an a/c 69?
Reading VetteDans site I see issues with the anti-theft systems, speedo and tach, fuel pumps etc. Any other gotchas you can warn me about?
the ls-1's have different motor mounts but the lt-1 and tpi l-98 bolt right in.For motor wise it all depends on what your looking for, top end ,or low end torque?
Thanks, I'm planning a comfortable daily driver, that will run on pump gas. Looks correct from outside, modern-computerized-no carb under the hood.
So I guess I'm looking low to mid range torque. I've got access to fewer options in Australia, so I was looking for a range of motors that would fit with minimal modification. I'll be watching the classifieds and buying a used motor in good condition. Are there motors in the 86-96 years I should prefer or avoid?
I've seen some 5.7l "vortec" motors advertised, seem to be Chev 350, do you know what these are about?
Since you are in Australia, you have more options than you may realize. I am sure you are aware that Holden is a division of GM and some of the cars come standard with the LS1 engine. You may be able to find a wrecked Holden and yank that LS1 right out of there.
As far as the 5.7L vortec's that you have seen, I think those are mostly truck motors. My tahoe has one and it would be too wimpy for your corvette.
The L98 or TPI is good for low end torque, but kind of dies off on the top end. The runners are just too long.
The LT1 has much shorter runners and gives up a little low end, but pulls strong through the midrange and top end.
The LS1 has mid length runners and from what I have seen, outperforms every other production small block in all RPM ranges. (Of course I am going to be partial to this one.)
