So I’ve got a bit of a challenge. My ’74 Corvette (auto transmission) started and ran fine on Friday. On Saturday, after finishing the center console installation, the car would no longer crank. When I move the shifter from Park to Drive, the warning buzzer activates.
At one point the key became stuck, and I discovered the cable between the transmission and the steering column was bent, so I disconnected it. Even with the column disconnected from the transmission, the car still will not crank, and the warning buzzer continues to sound when shifted into Drive.
I suspected the neutral safety switch, so I removed it and inspected it internally—it appeared to be in good condition. After reinstalling it, the same symptoms persisted. I also removed and inspected the ignition switch on the steering column and verified it is positioned correctly, but that did not change the behavior.
Has anyone run into this before or have advice on what to check next?
If you are sure the key and neutral safety switch are operating properly check the battery cables. A corroded or loose cable may allow enough juice to pass through to activate the buzzer but not enough to turn the starter over.
I've tried every gear. The reverse lights work when I put it in reverse. I'm just not convince it's the NSS. I installed a new ignition switch, and the results are the same.
It doesn't make sense that the warning buzzer is only buzzing while I have it in gear while cranking w/out the cranking. All signs point to the NSS but I'm just not certain. I have one on order.

Sounds like issue. I had the same thing happen in my Toyota Supra.
Cheap fix however. The Stress is the Actual Culprit.
ok, quick update. That warning buzzer that is engaged in "D" is the buzzer for the seat belts. It turns off when I plug in the seat belts. Other wise the regular buzzer is working as it should.
Tighten and check all battery cable connections, especially the negative ground on the frame of the car. Remove the bolt, clean the frame to shiny metal, and reinstall.
