Default 72 LS5 4 speed

Need to find a rebuilt differential. Thinking of going to 3.70 gears and possibly a Tremec 5 speed Engine has about 2000 miles on a stock rebuild, is plenty strong and smooth with HEI ignition, headers and Holley low profile 650.

Any thoughts?

The only thing I would suggest get the close ratio TKX (2.87 to 1 first) with the 3.70's. I have 3.73's with the close ratio TKX in my Cuda and it gets the car up and running pretty quickly. No need for any more gear reduction.

One of my heroes when I first got started R/C helicopters was a amazing 3D R/C helicopter pilot back in the 90's. He had a jacket with embroidering of a helicopter inverted with the caption on it "Fly Skids Up". Unfortunately he passed away. Rest In Peace peace Ray. Here's video of me flying my SAB Raw 420 a few years ago.

Dunno why, nor if so, but have read it has US military slang origin with a meaning akin to "Job Well Done".

That would be Fun.

How far/long can you fly w/out refueling? Beach or lake would be fun. What is the biggest trick you can do? Do you ever do a "Buzz by" on individuals or animals? What the top speed and altitude?

Very cool. I never had much luck with RC helicopters. Been 20 years so. I bet the gyros are much better. Might have to try again. Any suggestions?

The tremec will make so much difference you may not even need the 373s for a BB. For a SB yes, But you have so much more TQ. It'll run just fine with 323s. With a better cruise. Your choice.

That helicopter is powered with a LiPo battery. I use 3 head speed, 2400, 2900, and 3150 RPM's and I get 5 minutes on a pack. I would never Buzz a individual or a animal. These things aren't toys and can and have killed people.

The helicopters are way better today. There's a website called https://www.helifreak.com/ . The Raw 420 that I'm flying in that video is good beginners helicopter. Big enough to handle the wind and not too expensive to repair. Align, Goosky, OMP all make 380-420 size helicopters. I use iKon flight controller with a Futaba radio. My current fleet. Two Raw 420's, 580, and a 700.

That LS5 wants more than a 650 IMO.

For now just replacing the diff, not to go to 3.70 but to replace it. Might as well go to 3.70. It is what I had in my 1970 BB. May go to Tremec next year. Diff this year for sure

If we were on this forum perhaps 30 or 40 years ago we'd never be talking about 5 and 6 speed tranmissions, yes maybe overdrive units (and perhaps Hone-O-Drive?) - most modern daily drivers with 5 and 6 speed manuals and auto's with 8 and 10 speeds 'boxes plus computer controlled engines that perhaps spoil us allowing ultra low engine rpms on cruise.

You are correct. I want some more giddy up and at the same time a little better than 8 mpg with a 15 gal tank.

When stock my '68 L36 with M21 and 3.08 would 'squeeze' about 12/13 imperial mpg (not US) in either urban or cross country driving. Current Brodix oval port headed stroker engine with mild cam and large double pumper with its 40% extra hp/tq more than stock will pull 15/16 imperial mpg on a 2500 rpm 70 mph cruise and perhaps 12/14 mpg in town. It would take so many years to justify the cost of a 5.6 speed transmisson.
