Default 1980 Hot Water Vac Switch - Operation? Source?

I have a well cared for 80' that the HVAC controls don't work correctly and I am trying to sort it all out.

I can't control where the air comes out, being the top vents, floor ducts, or defrost. It only comes out the floor vents no matter where the controls are set.

I have solid vac to the Hot water vac switch on top of the heater box but the switch is leaking, everything else is good and working.
When the switch was installed the plunger did not contact the lever arm but the plunger did operate and had resistance as you pushed it in. I took the switch off, over to the bench and carefully pushed the "clip" down and slowly removed the sliding part. I was very careful and nothing else came out except the rubber rectangle and the spring steel under it that applied pressure.
I put it back together and the plunger wont return out, it just stays pushed in.

Did I miss something putting it back together?
Should there be a spring I missed somehow??

Also, I can't seem to find a new one doing a search. Any idea who might have these?

Get yourself a small container of this Dow Corning High Vacuum Grease Lubricant link below...
Pull the switch apart again and lube it up with the vacuum grease, it's your best shot...

Your vacuum switch as far as I know is NOT being reproduced and is getting hard to find NOS or used...

Thanks for that Joe!
Is there supposed to be a spring or something to keep the plunger extended ??

I pulled mine apart and now it doesn't extend on its own

Yes there is a spring inside...
It measures a little over 12mm or a 1/2" in length...
If you look inside the switch housing you will see at the bottom a round post, the spring rests around that to keep it centered...
Hope this helps...

Now i just need to get it adjusted so when i move the temp slider it pushes it in, it WAY far off.
I may need to come up with something to make it work

If you didn't know there is a turnbuckle on the cable for adjustment.

Yep, I just replaced the heater core and going through everything.
Even adjusting the cable turnbuckle doesn't hardy come close to hitting the switch.
