Default how to lower front correctly?

Ok, there was another thread on lowering by cutting the springs. Some say that cutting the springs is the incorrect way to lower and it also increases spring rate.

What is the correct way to lower the front of a C3?

Thanks

Big Block :D

Actually, the best way may be to buy different springs that offer a lower ride height. VB&P offer some to do just that.

You can buy stiffer springs that lower the car or you can hit it with a torch and bend the top down a little, but it too increases spring rate.

The torch'll ruin the springs.

Just cut them! The problem isn't with the actual cutting of the spring which makes ricers cars camber out, it's people not aligning them afterwards.

The 550 lb spring VetteBrakes sells is the same as a 460 lb spring with a full coil removed.

The real problem is not knowing how the cutting will affect what you're doing, in terms of height and rate.

The safest and most accurate way to do it is with a custom coilover kit or transverse front monospring. The monospring has independently adjustable spring rate and ride height(ride height is adjusted similarly to the rear spring.)

There goes. I went with the 550 coils from VB&P and installed them "unmolested". I will post pictures of the car later tonight after I rub a coat of zaino.

-Steve

*edit* When I say "camber out"... I probably should have said "camber in"... negative camber increases.

I don`t know what the "correct" way is BUT I used a cutoff wheel on mine, just don`t "cut off" too much, it`s kinda hard to put it back!! And whatever you do, do NOT use a torch on your spring. ...redvetracr

I cut 3/4 of a coil with a cut off wheel to get this look:

You could use a hack saw too. :chevy

Jeff,
Go with VB transverse leaf set up. You will have up to 3" of hight adjustment and adjustable spring rate from 300 to 700 LBS.

Glad to see you're now a supporting vendor

Cutting the springs is acceptible. Just make sure you align it afterwards. My car was sitting about 3/4" higher than the stock base suspension (According to the Z-heights) and cutting off 1 full coil dropped it to the low end of the spec for the gymkhana suspension. I'd have to dig out the specs to get the numbers right but it dropped it about 1.5 inches.
