I had to remove the gauge cluster to remove some other bracing under the dash so I could get a socket and extension on that nut, now the clutch pedal and linkage are in the way of getting a socket and extension on the nut.
It's the last thing remaining before I can move forward with reassembling the dash and installing the steering column, and it's fighting me.
You need to put a universal swivel extension between the socket and the extension. Not sure if what you are describing is the same as the bolt that holds the power booster to the firewall, but to get to that top nut, you need the universal swivel adapter. It is easy once you have that.

A large part of the issue I'm sure is the diameter of the pushrod. It's one of the fat aftermarket aluminum one's that I was given in a box of parts when a friend converted his to hydraulic.
I finally lay in the car and stuffed my arm up there to get the nut started, then couldn't get a socket and ratchet on it.
I may remove that pushrod, I have all the linkage assembled and would rather not take it apart again.
I can't see it giving me that much more room but it may be just enough to get an extension in there.
