Default '73 A/C compressor on a '79?

Hey all,
I found a used A/C compressor off a '73 with hoses and all mounting brackets. The owner informed me that it's an A-6, which is bigger than the R-4 (I think) that came in my '79. We think it'll still bolt in, but I want to make sure first. FYI, I still have my old hoses but not the comp. or any of the mounting brackets. Any comments?

The A6 will fit. But why are you sticking an old compressor in your car? Rebuilt units are not that expensive. Shop around.

A/C is one of those things where doing a half-baked job will only end up costing you MUCH more in the long run...

I agree. Get a rebuilt correct ubit. The chances you are throwing your cash away is high. Even though the A6 will bolt on, I think there are differences in the AC system from 73 to 79. I don't think the 73 system is an orifice tube system but I'm sure the 79 one is.
I can attest to trying to keep an AC system cheap will end up costing more in the long run.
