1972 Corvette Big Block Hood Clearance

Air cleaner?
Basically a low-rise intake only.
Stock intake has a carb height of 3.1" IIRC.
A 3.5" clears with a little room to spare.
That's it.
No room for a carb pattern adapter
But you need the 2.0" drop AC open air cleaner.
A C3 has the lowest hoodline GM ever put a V8 under, not to mention a BBC.
For a QJet find a 68-69 C3 used GM aluminum for a QJet. For a Holley I would run the repop 569 LS6 intake. The port mismatch does not seem to be a problem.
Both dual planes. Both designed specifically for the c3.
The Torker II is a single plane, kills low rpm TQ, and causes some other issues. I wouldn't.

The 3 starred intakes are the ones that fit. A stock BB hood.
And you can use a 1/2" carb insulator spacer on those (strongly suggested) and maybe have 1/4" left over.
Several BB guys run these and confirm fit.
I have measured both intakes and a couple cars.
Even the torquer is cramped. BTDT. Unless you want to run a 2" air filter on a BB?
The Google AI non-sense is just that, non-sense. In this case.
The C3 has three different hood heights, and I am sure "it" is not taking that into account.
It's not "that" smart...yet... but it's getting better!
The 163 L88 intake is 5.0" tall and requires the L88 hood, and it's air cleaner.
It is not even close to fitting a BB hood.
And both the Eddys are that tall.
The 2161 is about 1 inch too tall for a BB hood. But not an L88 hood.

This thread is about obtaining an intake manifold for a Big Block Chevrolet.
Here, AI suggests a Weiand 8004 intake manifold.

NO fn way ! Because 8004 is for a Small Block Chevy; it's very similar to Edelbrock 2101.
I have a Weiand 8004 and I KNOW it's for sbc. It cannot fit any BBC.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Sometimes AI is great, sometimes not. It is hard to tell which is which.
I was also wrong, C3 have had 4 or 5 different hoods on them, with at least 3 different hood bulge heights, that I know of.
Little red; the 569 is definately a R-port intake. But if you want to run a Holley with that BB hood, it fits great, better than anything else. The port mismatch does not cause anyone any issues, many folks run this with oval heads. The ports are generously large, that may have something to do with it.
DDawson runs it on his Blueprint ~550HP 502 and has no issue. It just seems to be the best fit and function overall. But do not try to run a Qjet on it, with an adapter, the adapters just don't work well.
The Torquer has very small ports, and chokes off a BB around 5000, plus it is just tall enough to sometimes need a restrictive short 2" air filter. That seems to vary by car.
A used GM aluminum 801 is your best Qjet intake. They are out there. It came on 68 & 69 390HP 427s.
I have seen a dozen other BBs, trying to squeeze one of the aftermarket intakes in there, and they all seem to have very small & restrictive air cleaners on top.
Sideways view of how flat the 569 is.... but it was designed to fit.....that's how squeezed in a BB is in a C3.
The C3 BB cast iron manifolds are similar height, but are 50# vs 22# for Aluminum.
That same setup will fit on a 569.
It might cost you what ... maybe 10 -20HP?... vs a new hood? . $?
I guess it really depends more on which hood you really like the most.
Good luck which ever way you decide.
BB C3s are special!
