Default Gotta Small Leak

Sorta redish in color. I think it is transmission fluid. Transmission was rebuilted in 1990, but only about 13K miles have been put on the car since.

Getting it checked out Thursday. Comments, please!

Where is it leaking? Could be Transmission or power steering or possibly Brake fluid even

I prefer to think of it as a personality trait. These old C3's are just territorial. They like to mark their territory to let other cars know that they are not welcome :D

Your car is a 4-speed, right? Standard gear lube is more of a greenish-brown color. Sounds like a power steering leak to me. Can't help you there, mine's manual steering.

I cannot tell exactly. It almost in the center of the car. It is not a continous leak. It makes a spot about the size of a quarter and then drys up.

I am going to put a piece of cardboard under it to see if I can get a better fix on where it is coming from. Taking to the guy who built the engine Thursday, but it does not appear engine related.

Sounds like the rear tranny seal - and a relatively easy fix.

Look for a drip hanging off the tail shaft of the tranny - or maybe at the
shift selection shaft seal. More likely the rear seal. I hope it's not the
front tranny seal - removal required there. Most likely the rear tranny seal.

However - if you do fix it, you will be stopping the perpetual anti-rust
treatment that so many old vettes owe their life to. :yesnod: :lolg:
:seeya

Thanks! I do hope it is the rear seal. :skep:

If your car is automatic, there are 4-5 seals that can be replaced without removing the transmission. My transmission used to leak badly. The only seal that cannot be replaced without transmission removal is the front seal.
