Best place to get an M22 or T10?
I'm helping a friend locate a 4-speed for a '77 that he is wanting to convert from an auto. Where is the best place to find one of these? Better to buy it new or used?
Thanks! :seeya

Good luck at getting the M22. Your friend probably stands a better chance of getting an M20 or M21. A super T10 can be bought from Richmond gear, and summit racing carries them. He might try looking around on Ebay for Muncie and t10 transmissions.

I agree about the M22...I actually want one sooo bad for my car though. They are fairly rare and known as the "rockcrusher." For a newly rebuilt "good" transmission you should expect to pay $1600-$2000 for a geniune M22 with the straighter cut gears.
You will find that the M20, M21 and T10s will be more in the reasonable price range.

There's an M22 right here in Denver for sale. Last time I looked, it was marked down to $550. Before you say that's too cheap, he's had it advertised for some time and that price has steadily dropped from a grand. Considering the horrible local economy, it's probably some poor guy being forced to liquidate his hot rod stuff to get by. It's been a lot worse here than most of the rest of the country, because of the telecom melt down and Joe Nachio's shenanegans.:mad
(I fled the telecom field because of him).
Anyway that's off the subject. To find the ad, pull up http://www.denverpostonline.com (I believe that's it), and look in the classifieds. I think it was under High Performance. If you can't find it, I'll check the paper again and see if I can find it.

Good Luck finding a used M22... They are going for a premium these days. I feel lucky that the previous owner spent the cash to go for the M22 when they did the auto to 4spd conversion. I think I have a syncro going out a it pops out of second driving in the neighborhood.... only ~$18 for the part and a few hours on the bench.. but worth it.
