ok here is the deal.. Florida doesn't have smog laws per se, so I CAN mod the '82. I want somehting with more power/performance.
I have basically 3 options.
1. Mod the hell out of the '82, keeping a non- vette driver
2. rebuild the '82 and maker her more or less a driver, buy a C-4/5 and mod IT
3. Buy a Chrome bumper Vert and mod the hell out if IT, rebuilding the '82 as a driver.
If I rebuild the '82 as a driver, how much can i mod the 200HP engine and still have a decent balance of mileage and power? I would accept an SUV-ish MPG for 300+ ponies, if the car can stay driveable
I think HP per dollar, you would be a lot better off modding an earlier car as opposed to a later one. Then again, later C4's and C5's start out with more power than most C3's (although at a higher buying price). If you don't mind getting rid of the Crossfire injection, it wouldn't be that hard to get your car above 300 HP, but with it, it will take a little work. I am sure the 82 would make a fine driver, and you could do some mods to get the power up a bit. The top end of the motor is the limiting factor. I think personally I like your last choice the best. You would have two C3's that both are fun to drive attention getters. Also, although a lot of things are different, you would certainly know your way around both cars. Also, two C3's would be less likely to devalue as much as a C4 and a C5.
Why can't you keep the 82 as a driver and mod it? 300 HP out of a small block chevy is childs play in this day and age, and 400HP is possible without too much trouble. You have the OD tranny already, so you can put 3.73 gears in the back if you only want 15MPG, and have a lot of fun. Joe
With only one car you will be ahead by $10-15,000. That would make a lot of HP and buy a lot of gas! Joe
I'm kind of backward to your options. I have a 95 ragtop for a driver (still no slouch) and have a 71 coupe that I'm heavy into mods on. Do what suits you the best.
