Re: steering gear box replace or rebuild? (goofygrin)
I've heard of the steeriods kit but don't know what's involved with it and what it goes for? The box I rebuilt is tight and the pitman arm moves exactly when the worm shaft is moved, where before there was backlash in the box. Anyone know what the side play is in the boxes advertised? And there were some problems with rebuild boxes last year I think. I know a couple of forum members purchased boxes that were still loose when they were installed? How did you guys make out with these?
Steve, sorry to hear you're out of work. As you know it's not getting any better here in CT. Hope things work out ok for you.
Norval, thanks for the compliment. That really means a lot coming from a "gear Head" like you :D  I've seen pictures of your work and it is top knotch
Re: steering gear box replace or rebuild? (gtr1999)
Well I just read the post on the steriods kit. I'm not knocking it and I'm sure it's a great kit but for a $1,000 I could rebuild several stock boxes. I figure the stock box has worked pretty good since 1963 so why change it?
"To each his own" I guess
