JEGS has Bill Mitchell's HARDCORE 454 smallblock motor in it's latest catalog.
600 hoss's 575 lb ft, 10:1 compression, solid cam and a Dominator all for $10.5G's!! Shortblock $4.7G's!! Shortblock sounds interesting. :yesnod:
That's what I'd call mac-daddy! Imagine the fun you could have if you could convince somebody at the track that it's a 350. But you'd only do it once. :steering:
George took me down to the race shop where his friends were just completeing a 440 ci. Tall Dart small block. At 440 ci you still have a couple of overbores left in the block. It used either a 4.125 or 4.250 stroker crank. It was well into the 600 hp range and being installed in a late 60's Camero.
If you read some of Monty's posts he nearly had 700 hp out of 427 ci Dart small block. He thought stopping at a 4 inch stroke was enough
They are using the World Block / Dart Block.....These blocks have mega meat cylinder walls....My World engine is 4.125 bore and it still has more meat to go....The 454 looks good to me....It will surely spank many cars out there and shock those who get to see what did them in :eek: The answer is Small Block.....I thought about Big Blocks until I realized they are heavy and take up too much space......My next engine will be a 427 or 454 Small Block....I have to go with proven small block numbers not urban legend or excuses. :seeya Cappy
I knew you would be chiming in on this thread!!! When does yours get here? You can tell the guys at the track that you have replaced your engine so they will let you race again. :)
Maurice,
I have someone interested in the Beck Max Velocity Plus 383 Racing Engine....If they buy it....and I stick to my budget.....That 454 Small Block is sooooooo mine...Chevy High performance has an article on it in the latest issue....It seems to work well with the Air Gap dual plane or the Super Victor single plane....lots of torque way down and high HP at the end of the quarter mile.... :D
Roll bars and harness will have to come first, since they won't let me out there regardless of what engine I'm running.....Wait till you see what I did to my front spoiler......I Lava lined it....no more road rash on my nose for me. :seeya Cappy
BTW...What's up with the cop getting whacked in Baskin Robbins?....That's a rough neighborhood you live in.....Note to myself: Be sure to pack when visiting Maurice..... :D
That will be awesome to see once you get that put in! You will be running 10's! Hello fastest streetcarshootout! You should be making quick work of everyone if you get it!
Everybody say it with me {CHANT} ROLLBAR ROLLBAR ROLLBAR ROLLBAR{/CHANT}
That cop getting killed really bumms me out. I don't know how he guy who shot him could possibly still be alive. Sounds to me that the partner wasn't doing his job. Story for everybody else, two plain clothed policeman working for the career criminal dept have tracked down a guy that has warrant for whatever. They see him in the Baskin Robins store which is extremely small and go in and say simply "Police". The guy immediatly pulls out a gun and starts shooting, 3 shots into the first officer, who tries to disarm him. SOMEHOW, the guy gets arrested with minor injuries? If you just shot my partner, you will die, you will at least have every bullet in my gun in your head/chest. I couldn't be a police officer, what self restraint that partner must of had. This all happened less than 1.5 miles from my house yesterday.

I just got off the phone with Ken at Bill Mitchell Performance Engines....They are being swamped with request for this engine.......It will take a month to build from the time your order is placed....He also said I could take my 415 ci out to 427 ci without much trouble....I would have to increase stroke to 4" and use small base cam....Best to have engine shop do the work since some clearance issues may exist....around the pan rails etc. I'll sell this one (415 ci) and order the 454 ci.....Go for the gusto :seeya Cappy

If I read correctly they stated they take the bore to 4.250 because Fel Pro now makes a 4.25 gasket to acompany it. So this means you now only have .0150 inch between the bores which isn't much meat. So basicly if you would drop a piston and score the cyinder walls you're pretty much screwed if it needs to be bored. Am I understanding this correctly? If I'm WAY off please correct me.
Corey 68,
Yep.....you are correct.....If you whack out a piston....the motor becomes a boat anchor....However...if I was heavy racing and lost a piston...I would not be comfortable using any block that dropped a piston again.....That's just me though...others might want to use the same block and bore it out....With proper maintenance and care dropping a piston will only occur if somebody missed a critical part of maintenance/assembly or a flawed part let go. :seeya Cappy

Realistically, if you break anything big enough to damage your engine, .030" or whatever ain't gonna fix it anyway. Break a piston, rod, roller lifter, etc., and like Cappy said ,you've got a nice boat anchor. Bore it big, and get a warranty. :lol:
The hell with that, just purchase an bare aluminum big block, the weight savings are now nill.. and ya can have something a hell of alot bigger then a 454.
