I had to disassemble the steering column down to the turn signal cancelling nylon plate. I had to rotate it 180 degrees so that my turn signals would cancel properly. Now that I have that done, I can't get the clip back in the center shaft because the spring pressure is so high. There must be a secret to this. HELP!!!!!
You are correct sir. The tool is a lock plate depresser, available through any snap-on or mac tool dealer. Can I assume it is a tilt-telescopic? If it is, there is a trick to using it.
Magic Fingers
OK listen carefully and keep your mind open.....hard to describe....
what I do is cut any strong tubing...steel exhause pipe or PVC will work about 3inches long...cut out one side about 90-120 degrees worth...making a C our of the profile, instead of an O.......get a plate with ~5/8 hole in middle of it to fit over one end of the tube....the tele shaft wit the star wheel in the end of it has to go through the tube, put the large nut on it very loosely...and the star wheel screw into the end allmost tightly....positiion everything so you can easily get to the all ready allmost in place snap/compression ring on the ~3/4 inch diameter large shaft....this is the mother that holds that locking ring in place....snug down the entire assy with everything in position....tighten hell out of the star screw, thereby locking the tele mechanism in place....
now tighten down the large steering wheel nut to force the cut tubing down along with the star locking wheel...and you get in to the snap/compression ring to slip it into place....loosen all the gear up...and assemble as normal....
saves running around looking for just the right tool, and too boot, it's CHEAPO
